Wendy Williams, the legendary former host of “The Wendy Williams Show” from 2008 to 2021, is boldly taking on a new challenge in her life.
Where is Wendy Williams? Her team recently revealed that she has received a diagnosis of primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia (FTD), conditions that affect language and communication abilities as well as behavioral and cognitive functions, respectively.
The reveal comes after actor Bruce Willis shared his battle with a similar form of dementia last year.
During her tenure as a talk show host, Williams gained a devoted following, until she took a step back due to health concerns.
She would openly talk about her struggle with Graves’ disease and lymphedema, which eventually led to the cancellation of her show in June 2022, followed by a guest host stint filling in for her.
The press release addressing Williams’ condition highlighted concerns that had arisen over the years about her cognitive abilities.
Observers noted instances where she had difficulty processing information, had difficulty retrieving words, displayed erratic behavior, and faced challenges understanding financial matters.
The decision to make this news public was not made lightly, but was motivated by a desire to promote understanding and empathy for Wendy’s situation.
Additionally, the disclosure was intended to shed light on aphasia and frontotemporal dementia, conditions that often carry stigma and misconceptions, especially when behavioral changes appear before an official diagnosis is made.
The announcement of Williams’ diagnosis coincided with the upcoming premiere of a documentary chronicling her life struggles, including her battle with Graves’ disease.
The two-part documentary, produced by Williams herself, titled “Where is Wendy Williams?”, offers an intimate portrayal of her journey.
Despite the challenges depicted in the film, her sister, Wanda Finney, shared with People magazine that Wendy is currently in a more positive place emotionally and physically.
Finney explained that although they cannot contact Wendy, she does contact them occasionally and is currently in a therapeutic environment focusing on her health. Also Read
